Turtle’s Stitchery, a store designed to bring you the latest in patterns, kits, blocks of the month, fabric and notions. After many years of having friends and guild members ask for help in choosing the right fabrics, Turtle felt there was a need for more kits.
Let me tell you a little about Turtle (AKA Karen Nick). She has been quilting for about 26 years. Karen got her nickname, Turtle, years ago while participating in the National Online Quilters’ chat group. She felt that Turtle best describes her characteristics - patient, persistent and always makes it to the end. Turtle also means longevity and she definitely has to live a long time to make all the quilts on her wish list.
In 1978, Turtle started making quilts on consignment and has belonged to guilds in Colorado, Utah, Florida, Alabama and now in Arizona. Turtle won her first ribbon (Honorable Mention) in a national show at the NQA show in Knoxville, TN in 1989 for her wall hanging titled Proud Heritage. Even though Turtle is not of Native American heritage, she loves the designs of the American Indians and the Southwest.
In 1994, with the help of dear hubby, Turtle’s Quilting Playground was introduced to the Internet. The Playground shared pictures of quilt shows from around the US and around the world. Due to the demands of teaching Special Ed. students, this fun adventure had to be left behind. Now in this new millennium, Turtle is ready to make another change, retiring from teaching school to fulltime quilter and shop owner. Everyday, Turtle is thankful for the talent the Lord has given her in design, eye for color and sewing talents. Her prayer is that Turtle’s Stitchery will bring one and all many hours of happy quilting.
